Long Term Orientation
The Long-Term Orientation Index looks to measure the degree to which a society embraces, or does not embrace, long-term devotion to traditional, forward thinking values. Cultures that value High Long-Term Orientation value long-term commitments and respect for tradition. This supports a strong work ethic where long-term rewards are expected as a result of hard work today. However, business may take longer to develop in this kind of society. Low Long-Term Orientation indicates that a country does not invest in the concept of long-term, traditional values and is more concerned with the present or the very near future. There is some correlation here with individualistic cultures in which the primary concern of the people is the self. On the positive side, in this kind of culture, change can occur more rapidly as long-term traditions and commitments do not become impediments to change.
