Islam is the second largest religion in the world with over 1 billion followers spread over a wide geographical area. It is a monotheistic religion with the same roots as Judaism and Christianity. Most Muslims are belong to two different  with about 80% Sunni and around 15% Shia.
  • Muslims believe that Islam began over 1400 years ago in Mecca, Arabia.
  • Followers of the Islam faith are called Muslims.
  • Muslims believe that there is only One God and the name of God is Allah.
  • Muslims believe that God sent a number of prophets to mankind to teach them how to live according to His law including; Jesus, Moses and Abraham.

  • Muslims laws come from their holy book the Qur'an which was given to Muhammad by God.
  • Sunnah is the way of life deemed as normal for Muslims based on the teachings and practices of the prophet Muhammad and interpretations of the Qur'an.
  • The five pillars of Islam are the declaration of faith, praying five times a day, giving money to charity, fasting and a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once.
