Individualism or Collectivism

Picture
This is the degree to which a society values individual or collective achievement and interpersonal relationships. In high individualism cultures people value individuality and individual rights. Personal identity is a key factor to a persons personality and personal identity is closely linked to beliefs of self worth. People in individualistic cultures tend to take responsibility for their own lives and as an autonomous being are comfortable having many different relationships and changing social circles often. In low individualism cultures people form societies of a more collectivist nature with close ties between individuals. Extended families and collectives where everyone takes responsibility for fellow members of their group are common. People tend less to change social groups.
