Economics is a much misunderstood and often ignored subject that really deserves more attention from more of us. Often people listen to economists and trust their proclamations without question - forgetting that economics is not a hard science like physics or chemistry but is in fact full of opinion, conjecture, guesswork and hunches.
There are a number of reasons why so many people fail to connect with economics. First of all, the language used by economists is more often than not impossible for most people to understand. The finance industry indulges in jargon like no other which obscures what is really happening and confuses outsiders. For this reason economics bores so many of us, but as it affects all of our lives considerably we should all try to understand and pay more attention to what is going on. We need to understand that the basic principles of economics are really quite simple and when explained in simple language not that difficult. |
