    Christianity is the most popular religion in the world with over 2 billion people belonging to many different denominations. The biggest division historically has been between Catholics and Protestants which includes; Pentecostals, Methodists, Baptists, Anglican and Lutheran.
  • Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah that was promised would come into the world by the Old Testament.
  • Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
  • Christians believe that God sent his Son to earth to save humanity from the its sins.
  • One of the most important beliefs in Christianity is that of Jesus giving his life on the Cross and then rising from the dead after three days .
  • Christians believe that there is only one God, but that there are three elements to this God called the Trinity which are;
    • The Father
    • The Son
    • The Holy Spirit
  • The place of worship for Christians is the church.
  • The spiritual leaders are called priests or ministers and often addressed as 'father'.
  • The Christian holy book is the Bible, and consists of the Old and New Testaments.
  • Christian holy days such as Easter and Christmas have become important events in the Western non-religious culture.  
   For centuries Catholicism was the only permitted form of Christian worship and it wasn't until around the 16th century that the people in Northern Europe began to challenge the centralized power of the Catholic Church and new forms of Christianity began to emerge. The most important event in Christianity for the English language was the publication of the King James Bible in 1611.
