   Atheism is increasingly misrepresented as the belief that there is no god. But this definition completely misses the point of what Atheism is. Atheism is the absence of belief in any Gods or spiritual beings. The word Atheism comes from a, meaning without, and theism meaning belief in god or gods.
  • Some atheists attempt to explain the existence of the universe and anything else that they don't understand through theories based on what is already known through science.
  • Many atheists do not attempt to explain anything they don't understand and are comfortable living with the knowledge that there are many things beyond their comprehension.
  • Atheists can point to evidence that human beings are moral beings and can live by the shared values of everybody without the aid of Gods or scriptures.
   People are atheist for many reasons;
  • There is insufficient physical evidence to support any religion.
  • Faith is, by its very nature, belief without reason
  • There are many different religions, so why should one be believed above any other?
  • There is too much suffering in the world - which would not be tolerated by a truly loving God.
  • Science has already proved much of the information contained in holy scriptures to be wrong.
  • Many of the stories contained in the ancient literature are just not relevant in the modern world.
  • Religious leaders and their followers have caused a lot of harm and suffering in the world throughout history.
  • The behaviour of many people claiming to follow a religion is often far less moral than people who don't.
   Part of atheism is the idea of secular society where people are free to practice religion but that religion does not form any part in a nation's government.
    It is possible to be both atheist and religious with examples in Buddhism and other Eastern religions.
   In Atheism morality and values come from the shared experiences of people and the willingness and necessity for human cooperation.
   In practical terms atheists often follow the same moral code as religious people, but they arrive at the decision of what is good or bad without any instruction from any god.
  Atheism can be closely linked to science and the scientific process. Atheists seek to understand the unexplained and unknown phenomena that surround human beings through the methodical process of experiment and elimination.
